After the fall of Kabul, resettlement agencies received a huge wave of Afghan refugees. World Relief, a humanitarian organization in Seattle welcomed the new arrivals, and put out the call for volunteers and spare bedrooms. Places of Refuge founder Fawn Johnson is featured in the news after she turned a local house into a free landing place for arriving Afghans while they searched for more permanent homes. Listen to the complete news report or read the transcript at NPR.

When Fawn Johnson and her son and daughter, who work in the family business, asked friends and family for help settling a refuge family, a team of more than 100 volunteers stepped up to renovate a house in a matter of weeks and stock it with food, clothing, household supplies, and toys. Good Morning America interviewed the family and other Seattle area volunteers. See the entire interview at GMA.

World Relief partner and Places of Refuge founder Fawn Johnson was interviewd by KOMO news after hosting an Afghan family of three in a home she owns. “It’s just an incredible experience to be able to provide that safe haven for somebody that’s been through such trauma,” said Johnson.
